Fujiya & Miyagi - Ankle Injuries
Fujiya & Miyagi aren’t Japanese (something they readily admit at one point in the album, “We were just pretending to be Japanese”), nor are they a duo; in fact, they’re three guys from Brighton. But they do electro — or “whisper-electro”, as they prefer — better than anyone else I’ve heard in recent years, sounding like a mishmash of outfits like Air, DFA, and Can and Neu!. Transparent Things, their third full album, is one of those seemingly relaxed and unassuming records, that very much rewards repeat listens.
This track is, according to them, about “walking to school as a kid and finishing a porno mag in the middle of the road and realizing that a female’s genitalia is different from a male’s”. I don’t get it either, but the atmospheric guitars and synth washes make it hard not to enjoy.
